Note: Here is a trivia question
. . . "what was the importance of this footbridge to many Hornell High
students of the '60s and preceding years". And don't say "to walk across"!
One viewer wrote and said "That
bridge was important because back in the good old days, when kids used to
actually walk to school, the ones living on the North side of the bridge would
have had to walk about three times further to get to the high school (now the
middle school).That bridge was much appreciated on bad weather days
Our reply:
Obviously a valid reason but not the one we were
looking for. The bridge was heavily used by students coming to school from all
directions. Hint: Gym class!
Another viewer gave the answer we were looking for
(3-23-2005) - When in Junior &
Senior High School during good weather we used to walk to Maple City Park for
gym class. That's what we used it for in the late 50's and early 60's. We
also used the old grade school at Maple City Park for wrestling practice.

Obviously an answer from somebody who was
there and, like us, wishes he was back!
