Katherine F. "Kay" (Egmond) Christiano

HSANTA ROSA, CALIFORNIA - Katherine F. "Kay" Christiano, 72, of 4175  Bastoni Lane, Santa Rosa, Calif., formerly of Hornell, died Wednesday (March 2, 2005) at Sutter Medical Center, following a brief illness.

Born in Hornell on July 9, 1932, she was the daughter of Floyd and Helen (Hooper) Egmond.

Kay was a graduate of St. Ann's School and later graduated from Hornell High School (class of 1950). In 1953, she received her nursing degree from St. James School of Nursing. Following graduation from nursing school, she was employed briefly as a registered nurse at St. James Mercy Hospital. She had been a communicant of both St. Ann's Church and St. Ignatius Loyola Church of Hornell.

On June 4, 1955, Kay married Joseph Christiano, who survives. They resided in Elizabethtown, Ky., for about 1 1/2 years where she continued her nursing career at the local hospital. In 1956, they moved to California where she worked as a registered nurse at Richmond General Hospital in Richmond, Calif. She was a member and past president of the Assistance League of Sonoma County which raises money for local charities and was an avid bowler.

In addition to her parents, Kay was preceded in death by her brother, Floyd Jerome Egmond.

In addition to her husband, Joe, survivors include seven sisters, Pat (Harold) Severin of Virginia, Mary Gottko of Corning, Monica (Jim) Wescott of St. Louis, Mo., Ruth (Jerry) Canty of Hornell, Thelma (Bob) Burd of Hornell, Christine (Joe) Donlon of Hornell and Helen Egmond of Hornell; one brother, George (Linda) Egmond of Maine; many nieces and nephews.

The family of Katherine F. "Kay" Christiano will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, March 18, at the Residence of James J. Dagon, 37 Church St., Hornell, (directly across from the Dagon Funeral Home). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, March 19, at St. Ignatius Loyola Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Kay's family request that memorial contributions in her name be made to the Assistance League of Sonoma County, 5 West Sixth St., Santa Rosa, CA 95401. Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home.






FESTUS, Mo. - Monica Lee (Egmond) Wescott, 65, of Festus, Mo. died Friday (Nov. 18, 2005).

Mrs. Wescott, a graduate of St. Joseph's Nursing School in Elmira, was a long-time nurse who recently retired from Jefferson Memorial Hospital. She was an active member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Crystal City, Mo., serving as a deacon and an elder. She participated in the church choir and the women's group.

Born Dec. 9, 1939, in Hornell, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Helen (Hooper) Egmond. She was a 1957 graduate of Hornell High School.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, James Arthur Wescott of Festus, Mo.; a son, James Brent Wescott of Glen Ellyn, Ill.; a daughter, Jennifer Lynn Verruto of Matthews, N.C.; a brother, George Egmond; six sisters, Pat Severin, Mary Gottko, Ruth Canty, Thelma Burd, Christine Donlon and Helen Egmond; and four granddaughters, Jacquelyn Rose Wescott, Allison Ruth Wescott, Alyssa Nicole Verruto and Ashlyn Rose Verruto.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Floyd Jerome Egmond; and a sister, Kay Christiano.

A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, at Grace Presbyterian Church in Crystal City, Mo., with the Rev. Richard Carter officiating.
