Lawrence P. "Larry" Gleason

HORNELL - Lawrence P. "Larry" Gleason, 28, of 7152 Hyland Drive, Hornell, died Monday morning (Feb. 11, 2002) from injuries sustained from a gunshot wound, while responding to a domestic disturbance call, while serving with the New York State Troopers in Crown Point.

Born in Hornell on Feb. 23, 1973, he was the son of Larry and Rosemary (Stone) Gleason, who survive.

He was a graduate of Hornell High School, Class of 1991, where he excelled in sports. He was a four year member of the Hornell Red Raider Football Team, a member of the Ski Team and also was a member of the Track Team.

Larry attended SUNY Alfred and later graduated from Alfred University with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice. He was employed for a time as a Loss Prevention Specialist for Wegman's Corporation. On Nov. 2, 2000, he entered the NYS Police Academy, fulfilling his lifelong goal of becoming a NYS Trooper, graduating on May 15, 2001. Since that time, Larry had served with the New York State Police, having been stationed in Wayland and Schroon Lake.

An avid outdoorsman, Larry enjoyed hunting and fishing and simply spending time with his many, many friends. He will be remembered for his many fine qualities, especially his wonderful sense of humor, along with his ever-present and charismatic smile.

Larry was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Walter Stone of Hornell, and his paternal grandparents, Jim and Mildred Gleason.

In addition to his parents, Larry and Rosemary, survivors include his sisters, Shannon (Jim) Kuhn of Clifton Park and Tracy (Robert Kneer) Gleason of Binghamton; his fiance, Domenica Morse of Hornell; maternal grandmother, Dorothy Stone of Hornell; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery.
