ROBERT E. "BOB" HALEY
HORNELL - Robert E. "Bob" Haley, 68, entered into
rest early Friday morning (Aug. 27, 2004) at his home at 3072 County Road
70A (Big Creek Road) after a long illness, with his loving family by his
side and the wonderful care of the Southern Tier Hospice.
Born in Hornell on Nov. 1, 1935, he was the son of Robert G. and Margaret
E. Tucker Haley. On Oct. 22, 1975, he was married in Reno, Nev., to the
former Sybil J. Clark.
A lifelong resident of Hornell, Bob was a graduate of Hornell High School,
class of 1955, and served with the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1959.
He was employed by the former Erie and Erie-Lackawanna Railroads, retiring
from Conrail as a conductor in 1997 after 37 years of employment.
Bob was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish, having attended St.
Ignatius Loyola Church and St. Ann's Church. He was a 27-year member of
the Arthur H. Cunningham America Legion Post No. 440 in Hornell, a 24-year
member of the Hornell Moose Lodge No. 210 and a 44-year member of the
United Transportation Union (UTU).
He enjoyed hunting, boating and traveling. When he was younger, he was
active with the Boy Scouts of America.
His family includes his mother, Margaret, of Hornell; his wife of nearly
29 years, Sybil; his daughter, Mary Hope Haley Jones, of Binghamton; his
son, Robert G. Haley, of Hornell; his step-daughter, Hope E. Packer, of
Hornell; his step-son, Gary (Lori) Packer, of Canisteo; his three
grandchildren, Kelsey, Hilary and Gabriel Packer; his three sisters,
Margaret (John) Clancy, Patricia (Rolland) Thompson and Eleachea Buono,
all of Hornell; his four brothers, Larry (Sandra) Haley of Springwater,
Timothy (Sharon) Haley, Eugene (Karen) Haley and Joseph (Brenda) Haley,
all of Hornell; and his many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bob was predeceased by his father, Robert, and his brother, Thomas G.
Haley.
Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in the town of Fremont.
