Janet J. Amidon

HORNELL -- Janet J. Austin, 71, of 26 Sawyer St., died Saturday (May 26, 2001) at St. James Mercy Hospital following a short illness.

Born in Hornell April 10, 1930, a daughter of Murray and Bessie Butler Amidon, she had resided her early life in Birdsall, moving to Hornell in 1943. She was a graduate of Hornell High School, Class of 1948, and had attended Alfred State College. She had been employed by Loohns Cleaners and the former Marion Rohr, prior to being employed for ACES in Alfred for nearly 21 years, prior to her retirement in 1990.

Janet was a member and past Noble Grand of the Hornell Rebekah Lodge #105, and was an avid reader.

Surviving are two daughters, Sueanne (Patricia) Austin of Florida and Nancy (Ricky) Palmer of Hornell; one son, Michael (Patricia) Austin of Prattsburgh; one sister, Elsie Carson of Arkport; long time friend, Louis Flanagan of Hornell; four grandchildren, Christopher Austin, Shawn Austin, Melissa Noel, and Cody Pfaff; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Burial was in the Until The Day Dawn Cemetery, Angelica, with the Rev. William Powell officiated.
