Mary Ann Martin
NORTH HORNELL -- Mary Ann Martin died Sunday afternoon (March 9,
2003) at her home at 402 Cleveland Ave., after an extended illness
surrounded by her mother, sisters and close friend, Cherylynn
Born in Hornell on Jan. 9, 1946, she was a daughter of James H. and
Helen Quattrene Martin.
A graduate of St. Ann's School, Hornell High
School and St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Elmira, Mary Ann was
employed by the Albany Medical Center Hospital until the death of
beloved father, at which time she came home to support her family in
She was employed by Bethesda Community Hospital until its closing as
an E.R. nurse. She was employed by Noyes Memorial Hospital in
Dansville in the emergency department until her death. She also
served as a substitute life guard at the Hornell YMCA, where she
spent hours swimming and playing volleyball.
Mary Ann will be remembered by her family and dear friends as a
supportive, giving human being, who never had a bad word for anyone.
Her love for family, friends, books, history, Keuka Lake, golfing
and holidays, especially Christmas, will be remembered by all who
knew her well.
Her family includes her mother, Helen; her sisters, Peggy and Karen;
her brothers, Don Jimerson and Pen Dyring; her most precious niece,
Theresa; her nephews, Bob, P.J., Brian and Donny; her great-nieces,
Terri, Caitlin and Jade; her great-nephews, Jimmy, Josh and Robby;
also her extended family and her dear friend, Mary Marvin, who spent
endless nights caring for her until her death.
She was predeceased by her dad, James H. Martin; and her wonderful
brother, Thomas J. Martin.
Mary Ann was interned in
St. Mary's Cemetery, Town of Fremont.
