Carmella (Colamarino) Simon
(1925 - 2008)









NORTH TONAWANDA, NY  -  Carmella (Colamarino) Simon  of North Tonawanda died Tuesday, May 6, 2008 .  She was born in Hornell on May 18, 1925 and was a 1943 graduate of Hornell High School where she was an honor graduate. 

Later she worked as the school secretary and was also a radio announcer and receptionist with radio station WWHG where she met her future husband, Clemenceau "Kelly" Simon.  They were married August 18, 1947 in St. Ann's Church and moved to North Tonawanda in 1957,   where her husband was a city editor of the Tonawanda News and later, assistant city editor of the Buffalo News.  Carmella  worked for many years in the Tonawanda area as a legal secretary, retiring in 1994. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Kelly Simon; her brother Nick Colamarino, and her sisters Rose Dugan , Lucy Kiesnowski, and Gloria Johnson. She is survived by  her children Kellyann Simon of Amherst, Mary Buryta of Pendleton, and Rita Penque of North Tonawanda; also, grandchildren Shelly, Katie, and Cody Covey, and Carla and Anthony Penque; and great-grandchildren  Mark Eberz, Jr., Cora Mae Covey, and Chloe Covey. She is also survived by her brother Dominic and her sisters Ann Dantz and Connie Rouse. 

Calling hours were from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM on Friday, May 9 at the Hamp Funeral Home in North Tonawanda.  A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 9:30 AM at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church., North Tonawanda . Interment was at White Chapel Memorial Park, Town of Amherst.  Memorial contributions may be made for a scholarship in her name to the Hornell High School Alumni Association at PO Box 135, Hornell, NY 14843.
