JOSEPH EDWARD "JOE" MURPHY

 

HORNELL -- Joseph Edward "Joe" Murphy, 44, of 37 Pine St., Hornell, died Sunday evening (Oct. 20, 2002) at his home, surrounded by his family, following a long illness.

Born in Hornell on Jan. 21, 1958, he was the son of William and Marjorie (Sutton) Murphy. While residing in Hornell, Joe attended St. Ann's School. From 1971-1976, he lived in Marion, Ohio, where he graduated from Marion Catholic High School (class of 1976). Following graduation from high school, he returned to Hornell and had been employed as a conductor for the D&H Railroad for over 26 years.

 

Joe was a communicant of St. Ann's Church, a member of the Hornell Knights of Columbus, Hornell Association and Hornell Elks Lodge. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid sports fan, especially a NY Yankee fan.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Murphy; his infant brother; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Ruth Clair.

He was married on April 4, 1981 to the former Bobbi Sue Clair, who survives. In addition to his wife, survivors include his children, Kelli Jo, Jamie Lynne, Laura Elizabeth, Joseph Thomas and Jonathan Edward; his mother, Marjorie Murphy of Hornell; four brothers, William (Donna) Murphy of Elizabethton, Tenn., John (Kathy) Murphy of Johnson City, Tenn., Robert (Sam) Murphy of Hicksville, Ohio, Thomas Murphy of Warren, Ohio; three sisters, Joy (Michael) Callan of Cincinnati, Ohio, Marjorie (Gene) Liwa of Churchville, Mary (Paul) Roberts of Henrietta; two aunts, MaryLou Tremaine of Horseheads and Nancy Murphy of Horseheads; many cousins, nieces and nephews.

 

 

The family of Joseph E. "Joe" Murphy will receive friends on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Ann's Church, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Joe's family request that memorial contributions in his name be made to either St. Ann's Church or St. Ann's School, 31 Erie Ave., Hornell, NY 14843. Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home.

JOSEPH THOMAS "JOE" MURPHY

 

HORNELL - Joseph T. “Joe” Murphy, 19, of 37 Pine St., Hornell, died unexpectedly early Wednesday morning (Nov. 1, 2006) at his home.

A native and life resident of Hornell, he was born Dec. 4, 1986, and was the son of Joseph E. and Bobbi Sue (Clair) Murphy.

Joe attended St. Ann's School and was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 2005). While growing up, he enjoyed sports - especially baseball, basketball and football. He had a passion and love for music and enjoyed playing guitar.

He had been employed at the Hornell Department of Public Works and also Little Italy of Hornell. Most recently he worked as a councilor at Heritage Christian Services of Rochester. He was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann's Church, where he volunteered as an altar server for many years.

Joe was proud of his Irish heritage and will be remembered for his love of his family, his many friends, and his dog, Rudy. He was very excited about recently becoming an uncle to his niece and nephew.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph E. Murphy, who died in 2002; his paternal grandfather, William F. Murphy; and maternal grandparents, Robert and Ruth Clair.

Surviving are his mother, Bobbi Sue (Richard Buchholz) Murphy of Hornell; three sisters, Kelli (Patrick) Donlon of Victor, Jamie Murphy of Victor and Laura (Ben) Monell of Neversink; one brother, Jonathan Murphy of Hornell; paternal grandmother, Marjorie Murphy of Rochester; his niece, Shaelyn Rose Donlon; his nephew, Colin Benjamin Monell; many aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family of Joseph T. Murphy will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at St. Ann's Church, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Joe's family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name be made to either the Heritage Christian Services Foundation, 349 West Commercial St., East Rochester, NY 14445; or St. Ann's Church, 343 Canisteo St., Hornell, NY 14843. Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home.
